"OWED TO GG"
April 30, 1969
by Kay Lippincott
One of the Outlaws

Eighty-five years ago today
In the city of Philadelphia
In the early hours of the morn
Helen K. Nellie Devlin was born!

The first and only girl did reign
Until four bouncing brothers came
Your independent manner and competent way
Nurtured at Boarding School where you did stay.

At studies, music, painting you were great
You still remain the youngest Marion graduate!
Those Moorestown summers meant a lot
Especially when you met Joe Lippincott.

You were young when you became a wife
And married into a farmer's life
Everyth1ng was a challenge you ne'er forsook
On the ol' wooden stove you learned to cook!

Conveniences of today there were not
Had scrub board, water pump, chamber pot,
Your pioneer spirit, your love of life

Made this city girl the best farmer's wife!

Bundles from heaven arrived on the scene
And never stopped until you had thirteen.
With babies to change, babies to feed
You still did canning and sewing with speed!

Constantly cooking for quite a crew
Not only family but farm help, too.
Up and down stairs kept you lean-a

That winter four sons had scarletina!

When Helen fell out of the apple tree
And Irv broke his leg 'neath the knee
And when you that wild dog got
Knocking yourself out as the shotgun shot!

All these things--and oodles more
To you they never were a chore
You accepted all with spirited heart
Dwelled on the joys life did impart!

Yon are very proud of your children nine
All have been married and doing fine.
All help another when a problem arrives
You've kept your family in close ties!
